One of my more horrible abuses of the registry: seamlessly transferring my Outlook Express settings (for all five email accounts and three newsgroup accounts) from what's left of the old install (a backed up registry hive, and the dbx files) to my new install. After a few false starts, I've now got all my emails and posts across, complete with the previous read status information. Now I've just got 840-odd posts in alt.sysadmin.recovery to read through (the result of two weeks away from this computer, plus another week not getting round to the backlog).
