WHIRRRRrrrrrrr...... *beeeeep* [Friday 10th May 2019 at 12:31 am]

That's the second power cut in a fortnight round here, and judging by the outage tracker it's again taken out a sizable chunk of Fareham.

It was actually a little disconcerting: the lights flickered for several seconds before the power went for real, followed by random battery-powered widgets complaining that they were now using battery (at least the smoke alarms were quiet having had their batteries replaced after the last power cut...). But the real surprise was the YouTube video I was watching on my phone (The Ballad of Mad Cap'n Tom) kept streaming without any glitches as my phone merrily switched from WiFi to 4G data. For all I rant about modern tech it's nice when failover actually works!
