The opening hours listed online for my local bank are blatant lies. They claim that the branch is open 9am to 4pm on saturdays. It's actually only open until 3pm.

Guess who was there a short time ago, foolishly thinking that an online branch finder might actually show the correct opening hours?

At least your local bank is open on Saturdays? I have to travel a good 90 minutes to get anywhere near an open branch on the weekend. I think there's like one in the entire city open on Sunday, though I might be thinking of the library....

Ten years ago banks were almost all monday-to-friday 9-to-5 only, but some of the chains took the opportunity to market both later and Saturday opening and the others followed suit. I think most of the chains now open a lot of branches on Saturdays, and some even have all branches open for at least part of the day.

Come to think of it there's not much that doesn't open on a Saturday, though some shops and especially public sector places are likely to close early (the local library closes at 1pm, for example). Sunday is another matter - banks don't open, and neither does most public sector stuff. Any shop bigger than a corner shop that does open has heavily restricted hours. Hence the local "24-hour" supermarket closes at midnight Saturday, is open Sunday from 10am-4pm, and reopens Monday at 6am.

Also, 90 minutes? Seriously? For a Brit who's always lived in the south-east, that seems like an incredibly long time spent travelling to get to a major town or city.
