Okay, this storm is *far* too close for comfort.

Tremendous flash (saw out of the corner of my eye through the curtains in my room), followed almost instantly by what sounded like an explosion.

I'm very glad right now that I have a surge protector. That bolt *hit* something near, and I want to know what.

Um, a surge protector's not going to be any use against lightning...

It will protect from an induced voltage spike, which is more likely.

I'll agree that with a direct strike all bets are off, but there are cases of the attached comptuers surviving.
